The end of the 19th century was a prosperous time for Vigo, as the city flourished more and more beautiful buildings were erected to reflect Vigo’s economic success, although many of those buildings no longer stand, Hostel Ancla Dorada evokes the glory of the city’s neoclassical past.
The building was erected in 1910 but was commissioned for use as a private residence.
In the 70’s the building was acquired for development as a hotel and was inaugurated as the Hostel Varela.
Currently, the management at Hostel Ancla Dorada S.L are continuing with the process of modernisation, and have adapted the building to the needs of the guests, improving the facilities and services offered whilst maintaining the charm of the past. The name Ancla Dorada means Golden Anchor, reflecting the maritime tradition of one of the most important ports in Galicia.
Hostel Ancla Dorada has recaptured the former glory of the hostel, and is at once a place of rest and also ready for corporate use.
